The Champions Club at The Retreat - Case Study
Banquet Room Renovation Bolsters Struggling Club
The Case:
The Champions Club at The Retreat was built in 2006, in the then thriving Corona/Inland Empire area. The club was originally designed by Jack Nicklaus Design to be a high end, exclusive and challenging course. The club struggled financially due to low membership and a difficult course layout. The course was then sold and the new owner softened the course and changed the club to a semi-private model allowing outside players. The club continued to struggle financially and contacted Z-Golf for help.
The Solution:
Z-Golf partnered with the owner to lease the F&B department. With the help of General Manager Flint Nelson, Z-Golf immediately began a capital project that included a renovation and expansion of the old fitness room into a banquet room. Z-Golf also added a full ceremony area while bringing back member and homeowner events such as the annual holiday party.
The Result:
The ownership and management has been able to maintain the member base due to the ability to focus solely on golf operations without the headache of F&B. This outsourcing and leasing of the F&B department has now ensured that the department is a guaranteed revenue center. The end result has been so well-received, that Flint has made the decision to outsource the course maintenance allowing him to spend his time and effort ensuring profitability in the golf operations.
